Give Us Back the Night

2026

This work brings together a recording of the local church choir S:t Nicolai Motettkör, who hum and sing a sparse text shaped by the environmental and social costs of AI infrastructure: power, water, land, peace — taken away. Their voices move between mechanical drone, lament, and prayer, echoing experiences of noise, sleeplessness, bad air, and ecological loss linked to data centres. The fact that the singers are a church choir adds another layer to the work: it returns the project to questions of faith, belief, and collective values, asking what kind of future is being promised in the name of technology, and whether this is the right future to pursue.
